The Wall's Downfall

Whatever is to happen to our Cunning Green? It's now been (re-) closed for 100 days.

The closure is getting on a bit...

We'd heard that Bob Costain's insurers had paid for the tree damage to the wall itself, post-Storm Doris, and we understand this is complete. So, why isn't the Cunning Green open?

The wall's apparently in too dangerous a state and, if the path were re-opened now, would simply need to be immediately closed again, with a dangerous structure notice being slapped on the wall. Costain could get more insurance but it seems inevitable that the wall could collapse elsewhere other than by the tree and I wonder just how far his insurance is willing to go.

The wall is, of course, a listed structure. Yet, who is going to pay for its complete refurbishment? Presumably not Costain. It seems that the Cumming Green has reached an impasse.

There's even calls for the wall to go. What use is it? You can't see the castle because of it. It offers privacy for Costain but, in all honesty, why should the public purse pay for costly repairs.

Unless it really does have some intrinsic value of its own.
