Doris has her Day in Town

Earlier today, just shy of one year after its reopening, they again gated off the Cunning Green. This thanks to the tree brought down by storm Doris, a week earlier, on February 23rd. This was in Bob Costain's property and it left the tree pushing against the wall, including knocking off several castellations. Removing the tree is likely to cause more damage. It is understood that Costain can claim for the rebuilding work from his insurance (because this is storm damage). It may still take a while but at least it can be righted. In the meantime, it is understood that the highways will at some point be able to divert the path over the adjacent green area.

There remains some concern, however, as to whether the adjacent wall is safe. Its condition has not changed since the path reopened but the fact that the tree has caused issues has heightened concerns about the overall structural integrity of the neighbouring wall. If this is the case, no insurance will be able to cover repairs and it is this rather than anything else which may delay reopening. We understand that Costain is to commission a structural survey.

Meanwhile, Wynnstay Road remained shit for several days owing to slates flying off the town hall roof and the unstable Weatherspoon's sign resulted in part of the pavement on the Square being barriered off.

Meanwhile, out of town, there were multiple trees down, including four in the space of ¼ mile on the Nant y Garth plus another between Ruthin & Llysfasi and another near Rhewl.
