What a Difference…

… a week makes. Just one week. Last, accompanied by a photo of a jubilant councillor Huw Hilditch-Roberts, the Free Press reported on the demolition of Fferm Glasdir and that the new schools would be in situ for September 2017. A week later, and that's been delayed till February 2018, owing less to environmental concerns—although the extension will help—but to contract and administration taking that little bit longer to complete. In truth, everything was a little tight, including delays with the planning process. Obviously, the two heads aren't happy and neither is the head at Ysgol Rhewl, due for closure. Closing schools and re-opening on a new site isn't a small job and it will disrupt education. But the pain should nevertheless be worth it.

"The new accommodation for Rhos Street School and Ysgol Pen Barras is due to be completed... in time for the new school year in September [2017]"

The issue is, of course, the state of the land at Glasdir which, of course, is damp.

Meanwhile, with the farmhouse and outbuildings reduced to rubble, here we have the first tangible evidence that the schools are coming. There's been very little activity afterwards on the newly fenced-off site.
