In Passing—November and December 2016

NOVEMBER: Rhuthun/Ruthin's new bathroom showroom is now fully open, this November, at the former premises known for many years as Celff a Chrefft.

In NOVEMBER, work was completed on the walling by the cemetery, on Prior Street. The three trees are safe, for now.

NOVEMBER: work started at the old station yard site and the long-gone Allett's Motors in Dinbych (alongside Homebargains, already under construction). When completed, this may be Rhuthun's nemesis.

NOVEMBER: Caught on camera in November was this vehicle having driven and now parked the wrong way on Wynnstay Road.

NOVEMBER: The property on the right, below, has long featured on this blog. At last, the vendor has shaved off a little more of the asking price... but not enough. It's been on the market with one agent of another since April 2013 and it's initial asking price was £339,500 before reducing to £330,000, then £325,000. Still over priced.

NOVEMBER: Free parking in Rhuthun (and elsewhere in Denbighshire) was introduced again after 3 p.m., from November 21st.

During DECEMBER, Tesco reinstated the use of road cones to discourage motorists from turning right onto LĂ´n Parcwr. The sign's often there but the cones disappeared for much of 2016. Notice the very odd arrow, which seems to imply traffic turning from the wrong direction

Recently-opened Bijou closed in December, citing ill-health.

Not only did NatWest close on Saturdays during 2016 and announce its complete closure in June 2017, in December it announced that its branch would open not at 9 a.m. as currently but 10 a.m.

DECEMBER: Encouraging us to shop locally? This at Rhuthun's one and only newsagent.

DECEMBER: fuel in Rhuthun ended the year at £5.40 per gallon unleaded and £5.49 for diesel. Esso was the cheapest, with unleaded priced the same at Texaco but diesel 1p per litre cheaper. The week before (indeed on 30/12/16) the prices had been £5.31 and £5.44.  The totem has not been working for a while but was mended in December. In January, fuel was £4.72 and £4.54 respectively, with diesel being appreciably cheaper than petrol. In the year, diesel increased by 21 per cent.

DECEMBER: Meanwhile...

Dyffryn service station appears to have new pumps. Actually, the pumps themselves are no different but Pentre Motors has replaced the cladding (above) on them and some signage. Below is how it was.

DECEMBER: The Corporation Arms finally reopened, almost too late for Christmas, on Mad Friday, December 16th., The town was busy and the area around the Corpie especially so.

DECEMBER: This reminder appeared on the Station Walk footpath. The town still and always has struggled with irresponsible dog owners.
