The last day of the RAC Rally/Wales Rally GB took place in Rhuthun/Ruthin, with spectators given the opportunity to watch the refuelling event at the cordoned-off Park Road car park. This was about boosting the number of visitors in town with promoters ensuring spectators were aware of the number of cafés and pubs open. It was a good try. There wasn't much evidence of people wandering around town, though. Costa seemed to be the only beneeficiary—it was fuller than I had ever seen it (and there was still a little space available).
There were several hundred people who gathered in Park Road to welcome the rally cars. Most had evaporated after the front runners had come and gone. In terms of numbers, it looked a success. One of the organisers was overheard to say that any more than the ;police would have to shut the public side down.
