Rally Scalies

There should be no place on our roads for idiot drivers.

There was me thinking that it was only the spectating boy racer hangers-oners who drove inappropriately during the annual noise-fest they call the RAC Rally/Wales Rally GB. You know the types, thrashing their Y-plate Cavaliers; bombing around in their stickered-up Opel Mantas, telling us we have One Life and urging us to Live It; or ripping along in tin-box Vauxhall Novas. Rally followers tend towards showing off. They think they are a match for the pros.

But, at today's event, we now have evidence that rally drivers themselves—once regarded at least by me as benign or even sensible on the public highway—are no angels. Indeed, there was some very seriously dangerous driving going on.

Here we see two rally cars entering upper Mwrog Street, heading west, towards the hilly off-road stages, where they can prance around to their hearts' content. Travelling in the opposite direction is a "civilian" in a Toyota. Notice one rally driver overtaking the other. Others were observed by me overtaking along the wider part of Mwrog Street, too. And, informed sources tell me that rally drivers were doing the same on Borthyn/Denbigh Road. What gives them the right?

Also on Mwrog Street, this rally car had been stationary, half on the pavement and half on the road. The driver just pulled off, into the path of the grey Peugeot, seemingly without care.

One rally car makes it while another tries to overtake a Mazda and a vehicle with trailer by the Roman Catholic church...

... but comes a cropper and has to draw back.

This Ford went into The Centre while its driver and navigator attended to tyres. Rather than turn around and go out the way it went in, the driver took it over the pavement, seen here, to drop onto the road. Informed sources said that rally drivers were mounting the kerb on Borthyn/Denbigh Road. Note the illegally-spaced number plate for OO05 OTH.

Update 2/10/16

Are we a lone reed? Even the Free Press seemed to ignore the problems associated with rally drivers and spectator drivers.
