Not Welcome Here

We shouldn't judge… but we invariably do. That's because reputations precede them. Once again, like last year, Rhuthun/Ruthin is inflicted by travellers. Then, they stayed for about 24 hours, a day too long in most people's opinion. They're again encamped at Crispin Yard, since late morning. There's noise from generators, from people shouting and there's a rather suspicious smell about the place… and it isn't coming from Ocean Palace. Meanwhile, businesses and homes in the area are concerned, as the gypsies go from door to door and business to business trying to sell things, notably generators. There's a report that they're selling knives. Something must be done. The police have been there several times already. There's the fear, too, that when they leave they will create such a mess that rally followers for tomorrow's event will be unable or unwilling to park there.

At least the usual boy racers have been forced off—no doubt to materialise elsewhere.

Out up to welcome rally traffic, not travellers...

We've not seen multiple days of gypsie occupation since May 2005 when the council successfully applied for a court order to move them on. And what a mess they left (the gypsies, that is).

Update November 11th, 1700

This is turning out to be something different to last year. The group hasn't moved on, as we all expected. Meanwhile, last night, there continued to be peddlers around town. However, we aren't aware of any infractions, misdemeanours or felonies.

Of the four vans whose registration marks were clearly visible, only one was not taxed. It does not require an MOT owing to its age
