It may be a year overdue and it's not out till towards the end of the month but your blog author can claim to be one of the first to have handled a copy of The History of Ruthin, thanks to one of its editors, Gareth Evans & Arnold Hughes. A quick skim through reveals a well-researched product. But we knew that, anyway, because of the amount of time contributors have spent researching—three years in all. Note that the title is not "An History of Ruthin" but "The History of Ruthin" and this reflects what could well be a positive—and definitive—revision of previous works, books that were really nothing other than either extended visitor guides or those that picked & chose their topics. The acid test, for me, for example, will be how the authors & editors have handled the siege of Rhuthun/Ruthin in AD 1400.

It's pleasing to see Roger Edwards making a contribution on Rhuthun/Ruthin life in the 20th century. He has always been reticent about committing his own research to paper.

Thanks to the patronage of the rural development agency Cadwyn Clwyd, the price I'm told is just £9.99. And that's thanks to European funding, not local taxes. Cadwyn has been very flexible, allowing the authors to double the size of the material and allowing for several production target slippages. This sponsorship means that a condition of publication results in a fully bilingual product, as is Cadwyn's policy.

Dylai pobl yn y dref yn gallu darllen eu hanes eu hunain yn yr iaith o'u dewis.  Efallai gallai Kelly Benton gofal i wneud sylwadau.

Mind you, the result is the book appears only half as thick as it looks.
