Gas Renewals End

The roadworks in Clwyd Street finished a week ago, on Monday 9th May. No doubt the town will breathe a sigh of relief as its western half gets back to normal. It's been a difficult months but what have we gained as a result, apart from a patchwork of a road (which actually looks well reinstated).

Temporary free parking at Park Road, for one thing. Yellow signs along the roadworks informed residents of the offer. Slow to take off and never actually full, the car park did prove more popular than beforehand. Wales & West's gas renewals were nothing to do with the council, so no one needed to make an offer of free parking. It was nevertheless appreciated. In spite of this gesture of good will, people still complained when the ticket machine was brought back into use on Tuesday 10th!

And we've got ourselves a chamber of commerce, for another thing. Without the roadworks, that was far less of a possibility. The roadworks galvanised people into action. Traders have been calling for such an institution for quite some years. Personally, I'm a little sceptical about whether the chamber will help the town but we need to give it a try; we need to see whether it can make a difference; what it can make of itself. To me, it's more about support from the public than from the traders themselves...

Meanwhile, talking of Park Road, that large blue, ancient motor home previously mentioned by commenters was yesterday replaced by an even larger red & blue lorry, from Scotland no less. Those who were cynical about whether the motor home actually could move are proved wrong. It might've been old but it was taxed (till August 2011) and it displayed a valid parking permit so it was quite legit, or so it seemed to me. It might've been blocking a bay marked "coaches" but I have only ever seen one coach in there and there was plenty of room for actual buses should they come. The regular coach that seems to stay overnight in Rhuthun/Ruthin parks in the Co-op. You know the one, in white or red with "Florida" along the side. There are coach spaces at the Craft Centre, too.

And, there were two more smaller, more modern but not necessarily attractive motor homes in Park Road on Monday. This number had halved yesterday, to one only (with tyres fully inflated).
