Medicine

The youth of Rhuthun/Ruthin are about to get a taste of their own medicine.

According to the police website, the Persons in Blue (well, high visibility yellow these days) will have powers to move youngsters on, between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m., from Park Road & Crispin Yard car parks (though they incorrectly refer to the latter as Cae Ddol).

So-called boy racers have been making mischief in these areas for some years. More recently, they've been joined by girl racers. Engines revving, comings & goings, car horns blasting, the sites are a virtual no-go area for ordinary people. Noise pollution it is.

From Friday, though, it will be the turn of the police to make a nuisance of themselves, by dispersing these itinerants and miscreants. Hurray for common sense. And, residents will be able to enjoy some much-needed piece. Except, of course, you can't expect the police to patrol constantly. And there will still be boy racer cars pounding the streets. I assume that by dispersing they will only find someone else to annoy. They may even vent their spleen on the entire town by becoming more mobile and louder.

With petrol in Rhuthun at its highest at £6.08 a gallon, you'd expect this to have contributed to a significant reduction in the number of boy racers tearing up and down Rhuthun's hills. Not a bit of it. It just goes to show that fuel prices may be high but it hasn't yet reached the point where it becomes an essential commodity.
