Castle Bell changes hands today. The jubilant former owners, who have been looking to sell Rhuthun’s only remaining town centre newsagent on and off and on again for a while, are eager to retire. Indeed, Pat Williams felt that she'd been made an offer just too good to be true. The new owners are the Hardinges, who renamed the shop Castle Bell. They're reported as coming from Northamptonshire, England and we welcome them and wish them well. Longer standing readers may recall that we reported in 1977 that Castle Bell was to be sold to W H Smith : )
Meanwhile, a branch of Greenland’s Insurance opened on 2 November in Well Street, at Penbarras (so-called Anchor Corner). Based in Aberystwyth, the brokerage specialises in agricultural insurances. It has targeted Rhuthun at the start of ambitious plans to develop a network of offices throughout Cymru/Wales. It no doubt sees the rich & fertile Vale as worthwhile location for business.
Meanwhile again, Ruthin Farmers’ Auction has entered into a partnership with H & H brokers, to offer similar services to farmers. This means there are now *four* specialist agricultural & rural trade insurance brokers in and around Rhuthun: FUW, NFUW, Greenlands & RFA/H&H.Under preparation for the last two weeks—and due open by mid-December—is the former Coffee Mill premises on Well Street that, over the summer, briefly became Espresso Espresso. The new occupants have already undertaken much alteration. It will shortly open as an Indian takeaway, by a firm who also operates in Bae Colwyn, Bae Cinmel/Kinmel Bay and, we believe, in Prestatyn. Watch out for parking chaos near the corner of Well Street and Wynnstay Road.
Blossoms beauty is moving to larger premises tomorrow, from Clwyd Street to Crown Cottage, Well Street. This, rather sadly, leaves another gap at the top of Clwyd Street, just when it was starting to look reasonable.
