Slice of Rural Life

If you believe ysterday's TV news, we’re currently building the slums of the future, so tightly packed-in and small is our new housing stock. We have the smallest new housing units in Europe, it’s reported. “And they’re all made out of ticky tacky”, as the song goes.

It would be unfair to liken Glasdir to a slum. This new development off Denbigh Road may well be shoehorned in, some may be unimaginatively designed and some are no doubt built to appeal to the buy-to-let market. But some of the (larger) houses seem quite decent, even if overshadowed.

It would be unfair to liken Glasdir to a slum. Slums are inner-city housing gone wrong. Glasdir on the other hand is “a slice of rural life”, so much so that it’s actually a new village, not a connected suburb of the town itself. There are good views towads the Clwydians. In many respects, it's an ideal place to live at the moment.

It would be unfair to liken Glasdir to a slum. But unless the estate becomes occupied soon, it may deteriorate into one. Buy-to-let’s crashed along with the general housing market, evidenced by major letting mortgage provider Bradford & Bingley’s interim results that dived further than its previously dire warnings. We’ve commented previously that it’s in no one’s interest to see the housing estate unoccupied. We’re continually told that we need more new housing, yet no one’s willing to buy it here.

It would be unfair to liken Glasdir to a slum. Developers Wimpey nevertheless acknowledge the sales problem. Contrary to the evidence on the ground, Wimpey states it’s still working on the site. Really?

And the most interesting facet is that, according to Your Vale, Wimpey aims to relaunch the site soon, to give it some more interest. That’ll be the fourth relaunch, then. The others were:
