Is the decision at yesterday’s Denbighshire council planning meeting to approve Tesco’s in Dinbych/Denbigh a huge nail in Rhuthun’s coffin?
We’ve pondered this question before but now it’s a reality, can we assume a bigger & ‘better’ Denbigh Tesco plus associated fringe shop units will simply divert yet more trade away from Rhuthun?
Take a look at recent history. Councillors initially gave Rhuthun’s Tesco the thumbs-up, in August 2005. When Tesco turned up a second time in October 2006, to seek permission for a Rhuthun extension, the planners were less eager, having noted the impact of Tesco on Rhuthun. They voted 18-1 against the Tesco expansion, though this was overturned by a planning inspector.
