Little Liverpool?

There’s no official confirmation of course. But rumours now circulating around the town indicate that Liverpool or Manchester authorities have bought parts of Glasdir en blocke, to offer to their residents for rent as social housing.

The rumour doesn’t quite square with the statement at Thursday’s Wimpey Homes public meeting when its spokesman stated that not one unit had been sold. Not one. This presumably means the poor sales assistant in her Glasdir sales shack must be incredibly bored—since September! Wimpey put the lack of sales down to a concentration on restructuring following the Taylor Woodrow/Wimpey/Bryant merger. Expect an upsurge of interest now that the site is being appropriately marketed. Even locals may yet warm to Glasdir following Thursday’s presentation and opening offers including carpets and a guaranteed purchase of existing property.

If the sum total of sales is zero, and *if* the rumours are true, who’s to blame Wimpey for selling large amounts to housing associations?

But what might this do to the balance in Rhuthun? Will it add to Rhuthun’s sustainability?
