Business has been brisk at Somerfield and as the store enters its final week, already the shelves are looking empty. The staff have closed one whole aisle.
As of Monday 4 February, the store closes not at 8 p.m. as currently but 6 p.m. On its last day, Saturday 9 February, a notice declares closing time as 12 p.m. We assume they mean 12 noon rather than 12 midnight.
What happens then?
B & M Discount Stores get the keys the following day. The re-employed Somerfield staff then have a week off, conveniently coinciding with school half-term. In the deal, B & M get the shelving and tills. The refit takes place straight away though no one as yet has said officially when the new store will open.
