... so screamed the headlines on the front page of today's Denbighshire Free Press. So the waiting's almost over. Tesco is coming to Rhuthun/Ruthin.
Of course, the main story was a little more circumspect. The Free Press reported that, in fact, there was a speculation that the food retailer (whose planning notice appeared in the same edition's Public Notices section) is likely to be Tesco.
People in Rhuthun/Ruthin know it to be so, of course. Rumour has been rife in the town for many months that the vacant land opposite the Craft Centre would go to Tesco, and to no one else.
But even though the local council is selling the land—and must therefore maintain an interest in gaining the highest price it can, for the taxpayer—it is by no means a foregone conclusion that it will (effectively) grant (itself) the necessary planning permission.
