Barber about to Open

The new barbers in the former State of Distress (and former longstanding wine merchant) on St Peter's Square is now almost ready to open. They’ve had the place for about six months but only relatively recently have they begun fitting it out. Note the gold-trimmed barbers' chairs. They have also boxed much of the premises off. State of Distress opened up the rear. But no longer. The previous occupant also opened the cellar which we think extends beneath a neighbour's building. That's covered over, too. (Readers will recall when the shop was empty up to 2017 that the cellar was used for nefarious purposes.)

Now all white, this is the new Karizma barbers. Or should that be Karizmaba?

Some will no doubt bemoan yet another hair shop in town. Better a barber than an empty shop (and it has been empty since September 2022). With this one, we shall have five, which is more than at any time. The steady sate as been three. Men can thus now go to:
  • Cutting Corner, Well Street/Llanfair Road (long-established, though there's been a change of personnel)
  • The Lox Box, Station Road (off Well Street), since the units in that quad were brought into use (again, with a change of personnel)
  • Lads & Dads, Clwyd Street
  • Hashm’s, Well Street
  • And when open Karizma, the new barber, St Peter's Square
We understand that the one on the Square is likely to compete mostly with Hashm but we need to wait and see if this is the case. Turkish barbers seem to be the in thing at the moment.

At least you cannot get your hair done online. But we're sure someone is working on that, though.

Meanwhile, we understand that any man or boy wishing to use the new barber may now apply to their current barber to transfer their haircut records to Karizma, in readiness.

State of Distress closed in the summer of 2022
