Another Load of Old Balls from Denbighshire

One of the strangest loans now available from Rhuthun/Ruthin library are footballs. Yes, actual footballs. While you pop into the library to get your latest Danielle Steele, Maeve Binchy or Agetha Christie (or even Agatha Raisin), why not take out a football, as well? Not convinced? Neither are we.

We suspect the balls are aimed at younger people not the Victoria Holt generation. Perhaps it might even lure adolescents into the otherwise forbidding world of their library. After all, space actually to play with the ball is some distance from Record Street, so they may as well dig into the book stock.

There are a couple of similar ball loan facilities in North Wales. It seems that other than Rhuthun, Dinbych, Rhuddlan and Llanelwy/St Asaph libraries, all are at community centres or sports facilities. Denbighshire so for is unique (but we like it like that, don't we).

Let’s just hope that youngsters don't want a ball on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursday afternoons or Saturday afternoons when in future the place will be locked shut.
