Camera Shy?

We have a new mayor. This follows last night’s town council's annual general meeting.

There was criticism that the show was not streamed live but in all honesty there's nothing controversial at any of the AGMs. There's no actual business conducted. Business is reserved for the main 'ordinary' town councils.

Flashback to 2015: Cllr Anne Roberts is the 2023 new mayor, as she was here in 2015. Since her first term as mayor, above, only four town councillors remain. Her then deputy Geraint Woolford lasted a further year to become mayor and then exited stage left. It was ironic that his co-opted replacement was elected as deputy mayor for 2023

Yes, you could argue that the appointment of the mayor is potentially controversial but these things are already decided by town councillors at the preceding 'ordinary' full council. The AGM just nods this through.

No, the AGM has always been about congratulations, flowers, plaques and rounds of applause for the outgoing mayor, the incoming mayor and the recipients of the town council's awards.

The clerk has stated that there could be no live streaming at the AGM because of the numbers present and the consequent need to rearrange the furniture. It shows that no matter how wonderful the refurbishment of Yr Hen Lys/The Old Courthouse, the space within is a constraint and is probably not the best venue other than for small meetings. Before Yr Hen Lys, previous AGMs (and 'ordinary' meetings) were held in the council chamber in county hall, where there was sufficient space to welcome the usual large numbers of the public to an AGM.
