Healthy Competition?

The Health Food Shop's been selling Ecover refillable products almost as long as it's been in business. We'd say Ecover's been available in Rhuthun/Ruthin there for over 30 years.

Then, in competition, along came Naturally Ethical, also on Well Street (till last year it moved the The Square). It began life at no. 8 in October 2018 but moved to the larger Lewis Electrics premises at no. 39 in June 2019 before moving to the Square in October 2022. Naturally Ethical supplies much more than Ecover.

Now, in 2022, we find Rachel's Eco Store Clwyd Street is to try to take a piece of the market. This previously had been an online and market hall trader. Rachel Ryland's first store opened on Fridays and Saturdays in September 2022 but having moved in early December 2022 to the nearby former Lovingly Made is available more often (five or six days a week).

And the point of this post? We now have three businesses basically selling similar or overlapping products. They certainly overlap in the refillable detergent segment. The Health Food Shop sells food and complementary medicines; Naturally Ethical sells children's clothes & toys but also refillable foodstuffs such as spices; and Rachel's Eco Store sells recycled products, soaps and beauty products.

But that's capitalism for you but the issue is, is there room for all three?
