Hei Mr Urdd

Be in no doubt. Eisteddfod yr Urdd is arriving. What a joy to see bunting, boards, pallets and even a shipping container in national colours, all in readiness to celebrate the Eisteddfod in Dinbych from tomorrow. Plenty to see in Rhuthun/Ruthin town centre, of course, but it's the unusual things that delight the most. Some of these are hidden from general view in our suburbs, as ordinary people make that special effort.

So, in honour of local colour, of Eisteddfod yr Urdd Sir Ddinbych 2022, 100 years of the Urdd itself, for the annual occasion of those local heats at Ysgol Brynhyfryd, in celebration of travelling across Wales for those 8 o'clock prelims†, for trooping around the Maes under umbrellas and in wellingtons, for losing the car in the parking field… here's a selection of local interest.

† This year, for the first time, there're no prelims: all competitors get their 15 minutes of fame on stage
