Handfuls

It's rather odd that, these days, we can be excited by handfuls on our streets. A handful is significantly more than nobody.

Today, we saw handfuls and, at times, several handfuls. On occasion, the queue for Siôn Corn in his wood-clad I T Williams shipping container extended around the corner of The Old Courthouse. The smaller-than-usual market huddled-together-for-swagger on the Square was fairly well supported, too, certainly in the morning, but nothing like it had been in the recent past. The afternoon squally showers rather put paid to that, though, and trade dropped rapidly.

Neither was the afternoon entertainment on the Square well supported, thanks perhaps more to the weather than anything else. Such winter attempts have largely failed in Rhuthun. Here, we see an plucky anonymous band courageously carrying on in the face of showers and vast emptiness.

Christmas 2021... sponsored by Clogau, it seems

All told, though, there were more people in Rhuthun/Ruthin than Rhuthun is used to seeing—but fewer than we'd like to see.

Meanwhile, thanks to what we understand is something of a falling out between today's organisers Ymlaen Rhuthun and the artisan market, we get to enjoy more of Nadolig Rhuthun next Saturday, to include more entertainment on the Square, activities in St Peter's and a market, alslo on the Square. Whether this will be as well supported, we cannot yet say. The nearer to Christmas we get, the more people will forsake Rhuthun for the delights of Broughton retail park or Amazon...

So, our guess is that it won't be well supported at all.
