Reflections on an Election

A polling clerk finishes off the entrance paperwork at 6.46 yesterday morning

At a quarter to seven this morning, the polling clerks at the Old Courthouse were ready to roll. There were four and this included one who was effectively a marshal, to ensure an orderly entry under coronavirus rules. Otherwise, staff were safely ensconced behind screens. Yet, in spite of this preparation, voter numbers were poor. It's only a community council, after all. Another reason was that there'd been a surge in postal votes, for obvious reasons. By 1 p.m., it was reported by a polling clerk that only about a couple of hundred had been in. Some of those were registered to vote at Y Canolfan and were sent away and they weren't happy. That, I guess, is the problem with plastering 'Poling Station' all over a prominent building at the very centre of town. Mistaken identities never happened at Awelon, tucked away as it was.
