Announcing Aldi

One week to go. This came through a relative's postbox on Wednesday. An identical leaflet arrived through the same letter box on Thursday. Nothing has come through ours, suggesting a cock-up.

All smiles as Scary Spice goes shopping in Rhuthun

Neither of them offered any money off vouchers (unlike in Dinbych). Perhaps the people of Rhuthun/Ruthin don't need to be seduced. We've been baying for Aldi for months. So much so, in fact, that we're prepared to overlook greenfield expansion. But we're don't want Clwyd Alyn to ruin the landscape at Glasdir.

Inside the leaflet, Aldi is offering responsibly sources full side of salmon for £7.99 and, rather pointlessly, ¾lb-worth of 'spooky spider' shaped breaded chicken is £1.79. Perhaps this is the only way our young people will actually eat meat, these days.

Scattered among other stores, Aldi still doesn't recognise Rhuthun on its website.

And Tesco's response? Updated car park, totem and other minor flourishes. A significant reduction on a number of items when you produce your Clubcard. No doubt Tesco's after loyalty. For example, a pepper is 45p without and 35p with a Clubcard. That's almost a quarter off.
