Fire Ambiguity

Judging by the way the neighbour kids are playing catch in the afternoon sun with a toilet roll, mother looking on, it seems that the supermarket bogroll battleground is over. Why otherwise would you play around with such a valuable commodity? As mum's head bobs above the fence line, the roll itself ascends temporarily again and again. I wait silently on the other side, ready to spring to snag it if it comes over and then make a run for it. Coronavirus makes you kinda desperate. But, sadly, it fails to flutter my way.

Still, supermarket supplies of lavatory paper are currently relatively stable. Perhaps we can relax a bit and play around with a roll. But only one, mind you.

At least for now, the violation that was the two-weeks'-worth-of-Christmas-like stampede has dissipated. Fresh foods are back at Tesco (less so at the Co-op) and other groceries are in good heart, though there remain gaps along the supermarket shelves, again especially in the Co-op. Some tin stocks are short, and forget sanitisers and much pasta. Otherwise, we're not doing too badly. There were even four packets of disinfecting wipes in Tesco this morning. They didn't last long.

The Co-op has today introduced a one way system. Well, almost. The number of aisles means that it doesn't quite work but it's a good step, regardless.

A Denbighshire council press release this day thanks its partners for the way they all reacted to Tuesday's waste transfer station fire. A positive news item that could've been over-egged just a bit by the fact that the council and its partners *twice* worked 'tirelessly'. Tirelessly seems to be a favoured word in such circumstances.

What's missing from the news release is whether and to what extent toxins and pollutants were released into the atmosphere.
