Catching Up With Data

Temperatures tumbling today to about 9ºC, light morning rain, cloudy skies all day and what a difference this has made to travel. Even fewer cars pass the house. The real decline is in the number of people availing themselves of the once-a-day lockdown exercise. Walkers and cyclists are next to nothing, today, as people switch on their central heating and stay put. Those venturing out now have coats and woolly hats. It reminds me of how lockdown might've been over the last four weeks had the sun not shone, temperatures struggled and rain lashed down—in a more typical March & April.

Yesterday, Google updated its community mobility reports for data up to and including April 11th. Here's the Denbighshire position:

Compared to the previous version on April 5th, below, we appear to be shopping for groceries significantly more. Is this because we have depleted our original pre-lockdown panic stockpiles? And we're visiting open spaces less often. The message has finally gotten out that this sort of thing is now unacceptable behaviour. Fewer of us are travelling to work, which is probably not surprising, given the state of the economy right now.
