Another Day...

I watched while a colleague packed up her work belongings into a cardboard box and left, because her stepson had been sent home with a cough. With her went her laptop, her screen and her plants. She'll be off for 14 days but won't return, working instead from home for the unforeseeable future.

Meanwhile, general working from home kicks in, as we all get used to conference calls, a 20 second commute, changes to power, work relationships and different ways of managing and being managed.

Unexpected news came today that Ysgol Brynhyfryd would close after business this afternoon, again for the unforeseeable future. To blame were 28 staff who are vulnerable or have highly vulnerable immediate relatives. Letters went home with pupils, presumably to shocked parents. This will now change the landscape considerably, as parents struggle to get to work. We would ordinarily expect the school to close for Easter on Friday April 3rd and they'd been asked to struggle on. It's the first secondary to close in North Wales and possibly all of Wales. Where one school closes, others will doubtless follow.

On the Square today at 10a.m. there were just three people. Perhaps tomorrow there'll be rucks of children.

The supermarket situation is slowly getting worse. Perhaps retailers are concentrating on larger settlements and bigger stores. Now, there's no paper products in the Co-op or Tesco at all, with kitchen roll and hand tissues joining lavatory paper. Bananas and other fresh foods are in short supply—if people are indeed stock-pilling these, let's hope they eat everything before food goes off.
