After the Ciara Onslaught

There was a flood warning at Glasdir today but, fortunately, it came to niothing. Water lapped at the base of the estate’s original bund but threatened no one. Unlike in Llanelwy/St Asaph (which, as was the case at Glasdir, was also caught by the 2012 floods).

Heavy driven rain at Cae Ddol gives the meadows an eerie almost ghostly foggy quality, as fields disappeared under water

The scenes along the Rhuthun/Ruthin floodplain were fairly dramatic, nevertheless. Cae Ddol was unrecognisable under water. The Mwrog Street flood prevention scheme was doing good business, with its brown torrent rushing to rejoin the river network. The under-road flood reservoir at Glasdir was busy but holding.

There was some pumping required at Glasdir, though. This wasn’t fluvial but as a result of surface water, which had gathered close to the flood prevention works but on the estate side Below, top left).

The River Clwyd at Glasdir had almost reached its 2012 levels (it exceeded its 2012 levels at Llanelwy).

Also observed were a number of councillors strutting their stuff like Castle peacocks.
