Dear Anita
You're probably the Co-op's longest serving shop assistant. During your time, your slightly puckered appearance and your short, tight curls haven't really aged and neither has your good humour changed. You continue to fascinate, with your exaggerated, deliberate, urgent pokes at your computer till screen and the similarly purposeful, over-extended, resolute way you slice our purchases over your scanner and plant them squarely in the packing area. For anyone else, this tilting, dancing, swaying, careening, this prancing like a fawn, would appear to be an effort and to sap their energy but not for you, Anita. But, what's happened? What was once your most alluring, characterful and captivating trait has sadly & suddenly disappeared and I very much miss it. And it is this. Each time we ran our purchases down your conveyor belt, you used to ask but no longer do,
"Have you got your members?"
This rather than "Have you got your Co-op membership card?" Such a shame that your catchphrase has evaporated overnight. May as well use the self-service checkouts, then.
