Investment at Ruthin School

Following the opening of Goodman (Ye Olde Anchor) and the Trefor dorms, yesterday Schola Ruthinensis showed off its new dining hall which will open to students in January and which will be open from breakfast till 9.30pm. All glass and wood, it's designed to give five-star eating for over 300 students. It's very open plan, so imagine the racket. There was some sound deadening on the upper floor. Externally clad in stone, it makes the Hewer sports centre look positively plain and old fashioned.

Neighbours complained of a loss of view but we were told that the building appeared high but was no higher than the existing buildings.

The next phase in the school's redevelopment will be its most ambitious yet, with the demolition of all temporary classrooms and outliers.

Meanwhile, the school keeps its position in the Times' as the 12th best performing school at A level and it slipped from 2nd to 3rd in the IC table of UCAS points per candidate. It has repositioned itself as an international school. Head teacher Toby Belfield often seems to get himself into hot water but the school really is an amazing asset for the community, with investment and good results.

Pity the pupils spoil things by being so ignorant on the pavement: they barge through without any consideration for others.
