Changeover/Makeover

Ruthin Town & Around has had a makeover. That's the journal of the Ruthin & District Civic Association. Not only does it now look professionally put together—no longer using the dreaded Microsoft Publisher—but some of its content has a bit of "bite" to it. Previous editions have featured only "good news" stories throughout: all fine, but shouldn't an organisation promoting civic pride and a watching brief on our townscape do more than that?

Are we entering a new era? Take the front page. This refers to the possible closure of the library building and the relocation to county hall. Should we be bothered? Well, the Civic Association seems to be.

First, it's important to keep the library open. County Hall is under-used, following staffing changes and needs filling up. It's in the wrong location in the county for the delivery of services but long may it remain in Rhuthun/Ruthin, as our major employer.

Secondly, the closure of the currently library will leave one more empty heritage building, a building opened 25 years ago following significant public funding.

The article in the Civic Association's newsletter articulates this well.
