In Passing—April & May 2017

IN MAY, The Candy Shack's "playroom" (for want of a better word) has become The Skin Shop, joining the array of beauticians who are available for Ruthinians' every pleasure. It looks like the Candy Shack itself has shuffled up inside to accommodate the play shack.

Elsewhere, that range of beauticians has shrunken by one. Creative Image at the junction of Well Street and the Square has merged with Celtic Hair Design almost opposite, to trade as... Creative Hair Studio. It was in 2009 that Creative Image increased its size by extending into the adjacent unit. On the other hand, Celtic Hair Care opened in 2008.

The former Nature's Treasure/No. 32 at The Machine, now empty, has enjoyed something of a paint-up. Meanwhile, the contents or part thereof is purported to have moved to Duke's Stores, Mwrog Street,

Corwen Carpets is always in the news! The shop front looks a little tidier this month, with evidence of some attempt at repainting following the partial application of what looks like primer, plus some actual signage. We do wonder, however, whether this is another false dawn at the shop.

The W & G Jones deli and café at the junction of Well Street and Station Road is currently undergoing a paint-up

To coincide with the newly refurbished footpath along its rear, Tesco has cleaned the side of its building of green algae and other general muck. Previously, it was streaked green and black and looked rather uncared-for.

The Craft Centre now has new, more inviting signage, off the Old Station Yard roundabout and at both its vehicular (below) and pedestrian entrances. The idea is to raise the profile of the centre and make it more visible. We think it looks attractive and works well.

Rather disgustingly, some dog owner had "forgotten" to take home his pet's faeces, leaving a full bag on the wall by the St John ambulance building, Prior Street. Someone had propped up a hand-written sign asking, "Please take your dog poo home".

Someone managed to squeeze their Renault alongside Boot's the Chemist.

Following last year's logging along the roadside of the Nant y Garth pass, when the road was closed for at least two weeks, foxgloves have quickly colonised the now otherwise barren landscape.

IN APRIL, with more parking madness, this time seen here at the Co-op Station Road on April 22nd, is this "classic" parking arrangement.
