Candid View on Cunning Caricature

Erected on both Castle Street and at the bottom of the Cunning Green are new signs.

That at the foot, near Crispin Yard, is a simple bilingual street name, though it looks to me as if the town council, responsible for the efforts, had a little trouble translating Cunning Green. Is it me or is the Welsh for the Cunning Green, Cwningar y Castell (lit. the Castle Warren) just made up. I've certainly never heard The Cunning Green called as such (though it's easy to be caught out on such matters by those who know). To say, though, that there was a rabbit warren on the site is pure speculation.

And, what troubles me most is that in 20, 30, 50 years time, people will take this as fact.

At the top, by the arch, are the same street name plates (although the Cunning Green is a path, not a street) but also a parody of the green plaques that adorn some of Rhuthun/Ruthin's finest buildings so well.

As with all the others, the plaque gives brief information as to the history of the famous path.

Just a few yards away is a cast version of the green plaque

It's designed to look like the casts used by the civic society as installed on various buildings of worth but it falls far short. That's because it's manufactured out of *plastic* and it just looks cheap. And we would guess that in a few years' time it will have faded. But I suppose we should be grateful to the town council for it. Shouldn't we?
