Not Impressed

We sat for 17 minutes this lunchtime in Caffi Rh/Café R waiting to be served before realising that a change of ownership meant we had to go to the counter (waiting-on staff even under new management had previously come to us).

Today it was busy and no one spotted us. The couple at the table behind us had been waiting longer because they were there when we arrived. A waitress eventually took their order at the table and the customers' otherwise miserable faces lit up. But staff didn't bother with us.

I suppose what really got our goat was the fact that staff meticulously cleared empty tables but ignored the previous occupants' plates stacked on ours. It seemed rather customer unfriendly neither to clear earlier débris nor ask if we'd actually ordered at the counter. We might've expected them to clear our table first as we were sitting there. We'd noticed under the previous management the very same trait: clearing empty tables while ignoring waiting customers.

They did eventually clear away most—but not all—of the detritus but still neither took an order nor ask us to the counter, whereupon we went somewhere else for our food. No fuss; we just left. That somewhere was the Sevenoaks Café where, to our amazement, we found only one table occupied. This was such a disappointment after an earlier visit found the place busy and bustling. But that was before Caffi Rh reopened.

I wouldn't say that we'd go so far as to boycott Caffi Rh in future, though the thought crossed our mind. It was enough for them to lose two covers this lunchtime.
