More Good News from School

He's generally not liked by his staff. Some detest him. But the new head of Brynhyfryd does have something about which to boast. Not only has he broken records regarding A level results, now he's managed the same thing for GCSEs.

Of course, since he's been here less than a year, it isn't exactly clear whether this is his influence or not. Remember that in spite of recent setbacks and problems, the school has always achieved good results.

But in restructuring departments, changing systems and ensuring consistency, the new head has begun to alter the most insidious element of the culture of the school: the fact that some teachers allow pupils to coast.

And unpopularity with staff could easily translate to popularity with parents. But the head isn't there to be popular with anyone. He's there to turn around the school. The job isn't yet done but it's on track.

Though you do wonder, sometimes, how the school does so well when you consider its English:

I know that I am prone to typos but I'm not a head teacher. Why capitalise "Best Ever" and place It within inverted commas? What's with the unnecessary apostrophe and pluralisation of GCSE? Why a comma rather than a full stop after GCSE results?

Perhaps the apostrophe intended for "todays outstanding results" found its way to GCSE's instead.
