Corruption in Low Places? Erm, no

Tonight's town council was its usual mix of extreme trivialities and excessive banalities. It probably merits the usual no mention whatsoever other than a humourous revelation (see third para—an early April fool).

Meanwhile, as elsewhere in Denbighshire and no doubt Wales, town councillors continued to get "exercised" by that most insidious of issues, dog dirt. This crops up regularly. It seems that wardens cannot be in the right place at the right time to catch people's dogs at it. There was, however, a hint of vigilantism at tonight's meeting. There was a suggestion, widely applauded, that councillors photograph perpetrators and stick the images on their own personal Facebook sites. Hmmm. Such direct action sounds a little dangerous but I would agree that something's got to be done. The $64,000 question is, what. Town councillors suggested a Rhuthun/Ruthin campaign but isn't that exactly what the county council has been doing, but all over Denbighshire? There have been warning signs in Rhuthun as a result.

On that more amusing note, though, there was the revelation that the mayor's allowance is paying for the 72 year old incumbent's gym membership. A case of corruption in low places? No, not even an error, just a mischievous prank. The 72-year-old madam mayor admits that she wouldn't be able to use a gym even if someone were to pay for her to do so. Even if that someone was actually you and me.
