Little wonder they call Wetherspoon's a so-called "category killer", a force so powerful that it means others are effectively unable to compete profitably.
Not actually frequenting Wetherspoon's Rhuthun/Ruthin that often—the food isn't that great*—this week I have seen a comparison between it and a well-known town pub.
My round at The Feathers, on Wednesday:
3 x alcoholic drinks (pints/wine)
Change from a tenner was 40p
My round at Wetherspoon's, on Saturday:
Same 3x alcoholic drinks as The Feathers
1x additional alcoholic drink
1x pint soft drink
Change from a tenner was 26p
*—it has improved but it's presentation isn't great and its a little "plastic". I've had a meal with the vegetable bag included. It would seem that veg is pre-cooked, then sealed in plastic ready for the microwave oven. The kitchen staff opened the bag, spilled out the veg but failed to bin the bag, leaving it instead upright on the plate...
