Chatwin's reopened today. They took over from the Village Bakery 13 months ago but fire gutted the place in July and although there was a promise of a refurbishment, it dragged and for ages seemingly nothing happened. Now, though, a £100,000 refit has changed the whole character of the shop. Out have gone the 90s-style tables & chairs in favour of a very modern look that includes a Starbucks-style logo to replace the homespun Chatwin's script. There are fewer, smaller tables, too, five of them plus three-seat breakfast bar, and this has decluttered the place and created much more space. The new Chatwin’s seems to major more on takeaway sandwiches and hot roasts than the bakery. We welcome them back and wish them well. Don't forget our own artisan baker, Popty'r Eryr/Eagles Bakery, Clwyd Street.
