Follow the Yellow Brick Road

So soon after Ysgol Brynhyfryd's summer production of the Wizard of Oz comes some gaiety to Rhuthun/Ruthin's roads—in the shape of new yellow roadmarkings.

While we were all in our chapels this morning, some workers were out with a yellow paintbrush or two. They've doubled some of our single yellow lines—you cannot now legally wait at *any* time where there are two—and added "no loading" kerb edge marks at various points in the town (two means no loading at all, one at certain times only).

The result of all this new yellow is certainly striking. You certainly cannot miss the brightness. May be that's the point.

This is bound to polarise opinion. There will be those who welcome a clearer indication of where you can and cannot legally park. Let's face it, motorists have been abusing the town's single yellow lines for years. They seem to feel that they can abandon their vehicles anywhere, to suit themselves. The kerb markings bring with them a little common sense in terms of where lorries can load & unload.

And there will be those who feel that the kerb markings are a desecration of a conversation area. Maybe we all need to reflect on the fact that if only motorists had behaved themselves in the first place things would've stayed the same. And the yellow lines that were around before today have all faded nicely so it will only be a matter of time before the new ones do, too.

There's also plenty of new white paint around. The centre of the A494 between Lôn Fawr and the so-called Briec Roundabout (more correctly the Old Station Yard roundabout) has freshly been painted in white.
