Catching up on Comments

A word about the downside of comment moderation. Having been away for over a week, I've been struggling as best I can to deal with moderating comments remotely. Away from home, this has proven difficult. Additionally, comment moderation brings with it less spontaneous reader reaction. I need to consider the ramifications of these issues carefully. The survey as mentioned above may help.

And, I simply couldn't access the web on Tuesday morning at all, for example. Apologies if your comment was caught in a queue.

Further, Blogger's been playing up, it seems. Wednesday's intended post went live but disappeared. Alas, this sort of thing is not for the first time. A post destined for Monday went up but there appeared no content at all, not even a title. It came out very blank.

On Thursday, an anonymous reader left a comment that very same ghost blog post which I've transferred here (comment no. 8), because there's no point in retaining an empty live post. Again, apologies even though some things are out of my control.

The comment asks whether the positive side of Ruthin Décor's move to the former Slater's site is negated by a warehouse unit "going out of use" on Lôn Parcwr. A fair point. But my original thoughts about the importance of Slater's site being in use at last were in the context of bringing balance to widely published media views that only shops in the *town centre* itself were *closing*.

I need to come back to a couple of other comments.

This is positively the last mention here on the subject of the dreaded Purple Paint. A comment added on Saturday referred to the AGM of the Ruthin & District Civic Association. To complement the debate on the streets and recently on this blog, it seems that the issue of dreaded Purple Paint has stimulated great debate within the rarefied circle of the Civic Association. Worth a look if you are still interested in things lavender. Other than that, at least one reader feels that complaining about the purpleness of Faerie Pirates/Hardly Nickels is a "disgrace". Enough from me on this.

Another comment that arrived on Saturday referred to a post of as long ago as July 2011. The commenter wonders why the advertising board for J's Barber has an additional apostrophe, as in J's Barber's. Such an apostrophe's been in place ever since John the barber retired but the good news is that the advertising boards outside the former Dodd's show only the apostrophe after J. They are correct.

There are two such boards in place up there for J's. There are also *four* for Nancherrow and one for Annie's (a further one for Annie's is at the junction of Upper Clwyd Street & Clwyd Street). Is this general proliferation of A-boards acceptable?

Those who are interested in the etymology of the words Jumbo Hill may like to check here. Would someone in the know be able to confirm this either way?

As for Scooby Doo's comment on The Color Purple, the survey results are what they are. Such a seemingly contradictory response isn’t unusual. People will say "black" to a very specific question and will often say "white" to a more general one. And, it would seem that there's a very silent majority reading the blog who, on this occasion, didn't wish to write a comment but voted. The survey gave them space to air their views.
