An email from one of Gŵyl Rhuthun Festival's volunteers asks me to remedy the false impression I may have given—or added to, for there's been an under-current of minority disapproval for a couple of years—that the Festival is somehow not good for Rhuthun/Ruthin. The "few isolated incidents" to which I referred were, in the opinion of the volunteer, nothing to do with the Festival itself.
The email also took issue with my statement that "Shopping grinds to a halt during Top Dre". I stand by that but who knows the impact the Festival has on return visits to town.
If, for whatever reason, the town rejects the Festival as A Problem, one of two things may happen: the Festival will fold; or move out of town. I would contend that neither is in the best interests of Rhuthun.
I am therefore happy to ensure that this view gets a fair hearing. Remember that the organisers throughout the year and the helpers on the day are all volunteers and that they go to great lengths to ensure the six hours of entertainment passes smoothly. They deserve our thanks.
