A Success?

Shame on me! Wythnos Rhuthun Week and I spectacularly failed to become engaged by it. I've hardly mentioned it. I still haven’t been to see the New Masterplan 2 exhibition. So, thanks must go to Gavin Harris (widely held as the instigator of the original Masterplan 1) and others, for the recent updates. As far as I know, the exhibition (in the Craft Centre) continues this week.

As the week quite literally draws to a close (for today sketchers & artists should be out doodling their way around town, in the rain), those involved with it seem to have deemed it a success. And, for whatever reason, Rhuthun was busier yesterday than you might normally expect for a Saturday in late May. Perhaps the bank holiday weekend has something to do with it. Undoubtedly, the good press that resulted from Rhuthun Week contributed. There were plenty of new faces around.

And free parking, too? The busiest car park in Rhuthun yesterday was *still* Tesco's. Market Street car park was otherwise the fullest, especially in the morning and early afternoon. You could always (just) find a space. Other car parks were disappointingly under-used. Even Dog Lane was gappy, even with the construction compound within.

I even saw a handful of photographers, taking part in the mini-photothong or whatever it was called. Anyone know the number of entrants this attracted? They should've awaited the afternoon, though, as the light improved considerably. One said how difficult the task was. The difficulty, it seemed, was capturing the half dozen or so required shots in the order set by the judges. I'd say that this wasn't difficult, it was the challenge. It's said that the results and fruits should be up in the Masterplan 2 exhibition this week.

Great to see the produce market stalls on the Square and not the Old Gaol, again. This was achievable because of the smaller number of participants. Was it Leonardo's that had the smelly stove?

Well, as Gavin Harris said, this *was* organised with just five weeks' notice. And while you may consider that somewhat hurried, I honestly believe that from the publicity viewpoint alone it was worth the rush.

May be we can see Rhuthun week become a regular feature in years to come.
