Sixth Form Car Parking

Residents of Parc Brynhyfryd and Bryn Eryl will no doubt be interested to hear that the sixth form car park at Ysgol Brynhyfryd is taking shape. A somewhat casual glance at the area outside the building that runs parallel to Mold Road yesterday reveals an area of land currently fenced off that will eventually be able to house some 25 cars or fewer. Whether this is enough for the demand, I am not sure.

When we reported on the issue back in June, we were taken aback at the response from readers. There were 29 comments. In summary, we felt that the issue could be solved by the youngsters themselves by being disciplined enough to use other means to get to school. This, we felt, couldn't be too difficult as they'd managed to do so up to their driving test. See a summary of the complexities of the blame game here. You'd be surprised. It was one of our most controversial posts.

Some readers blamed the school. But why should the school spend money from what I assume is a finite budget simply to cater for the luxury of sixth formers to park?

Well, someone has found the money. It's not an expensive solution. It seems to involve a heavy-duty plastic cover over part of the existing grassed area. The covering is punctured so that grass can grow through. Is this the final surface?

I understand that to overcome the very real concerns about young drivers entering and leaving when there are even younger pupils on site, the school has rightly decreed that cars can only enter and leave at the beginning and end of the school day. Once in, they can't be moved.
