A comment posted here on Sunday revealed that a small number of traders were considering opening later on Thursday 16th December.
Investigations have concluded that this indeed looks to be the case, till 7 p.m. If any of the shopkeepers concerned feel able to comment upon who will open, please feel free to do so. So far, I am aware of but a handful. If you're one of the remainder, why not consider joining them?
Could this act as a nucleus of shops trying to rebuild the once popular Thursday Christmas late nights? Remember those halcyon days of ox roasts on the Square?
For those after a bargain, B&M has missed the point of Thursday late night shopping and is instead opening till 8 p.m. on Tuesday 14th, or so the photocopied and off-centred in-store fliers suggest. Here, from 4 p.m. you can enjoy 10 per cent off all purchases (but not in volume quantities). It's called the "friends & family night" so I am unsure whether this is available to the general public. Tesco and Co-op stay open on both nights till 10 p.m, as usual.
