Maia

2½ years after Lucinda Fashions closed, from today we can celebrate the re-opening of the unit once again, this time as a florist. Gone are the vandal prone large pains of glass in favour of an altogether more in keeping and attractive fenestration.

The new occupant is Maia designer florists. Competition for Reebee's of Clwyd Street but also a welcome convenience retailer in town.

Florists, though, seem to have come and gone, in recent years. Remember Ursula's in Clwyd Street and for a while at the (currently empty) former organic greengrocers, at the junction of Clwyd & Mwrog Streets? The florist where once Ruthin Carpets was (also now empty).?And, more recently, Edenbloom that came and went in shorter time than a growing season? This isn't empty but from the summer sells wood burning manufactured "logs". And, after more than 20 years, Grosvenor Florists left its premises off Well Street vacant though, like Maia, it still offers a wedding delivery service. Go back slightly less than 20 years and there was Williams's of Clwyd Street.

As far as I know, Maia Florists was established in 2007 in Llandegla. We welcome them to Rhuthun/Ruthin itself. The bilingual fascia is a nice touch. Hope the van isn't going to find itself parked outside, all day long, though.
