School Parking—more

I don't know whether Ysgol Brynhyfryd pupils achieved good A Level results yesterday, or not. I suspect they did. It's said that 80 per cent of Brynhyfryd pupils who apply to university get their first or second choice. That's ahead of yesterday's statistic that would indicate that across Britain only 56 per cent did.

At the moment, with school out, the issue of sixth formers parking at both Parc Brynhyfryd and Bryn Eryl is dormant. It’ll be back on the agenda in just 14 days' time, when school re-opens, the more so because Brynhyfryd is offering academic & vocational courses in conjunction with other schools and colleges up and down the Vale. This will only increase the need for sixth form car parking and further exacerbate the situation. Remember, the initial problem was that the school banned sixth formers; students parked in residential streets; and homeowners complained.

It's now said that Brynhyfryd has relented and will create temporary parking for sixth formers. To date, there doesn't appear to be anything happening that would corroborate this, so who knows.

When we posted on this subject in June, the controversial post attracted 21 comments, some persuasive, some reasonable, some irate, some ignorant and at least one was plain abusive.

Perhaps it was one of those sixth formers awaiting their results who, through the insomnia associated with worry, posted two additional comments in the early hours yesterday. They deserve to be read. They show that young people can be cogent, erudite and can debate. That's not to suggest that the points made are always rational or necessarily accurate, or that the additional comments offer solutions…

It all goes to show that parking raises the hackles. We expect to be able to park where we need to but we none of us like someone dumping their car outside our own house.
