After Your Loyalty

Another loyalty scheme has just launched in Rhuthun/Ruthin. It's at Bridge Services where anyone who can prove they have a LL15 address can get a reduced petrol or diesel. Called the Ruthin Community Savings Card, it's provided by thde forecourt operator, the UK's largest independent fuel retailer, Malthurst.

The sign outside Bridge Services says the scheme offers "up to 4p off" a litre. This is correct but you get this level of saving only at the fourth fill up. The garage will deduct 1p per litre at the first fill, and progressively a further penny at each subsequent one, till the fourth. Then, you need to start again at 1p off.

This month, unleaded at both Bridge & Dyffryn Services has oscillated between £1.189 and £1.199 per litre, though for a short time it reached £1.209. It's been interesting to watch its move, several times between the two. That in Dinbych at either Shell or Morrison's has been £1.159 but here it started out at £1.129. It's been lower still in Yr Wyddgrug/Mold, regularly as low at £1.129, in fact. Saving 1p to 4p off a litre at brings fuel at Bridge Services within reach of Dinbych’s only at the fourth fill.

A typical 12 gallon Ford Focus fill-up costs £65.94 at £1.199 per litre. For each 1p a litre saving, the cost reduces by 55p. It saves £2.20 on a fill up on the fourth attempt.

Texaco also offer a rewards card. It's a points card similar to Tesco's Clubcard. You get a point for every £1 spent at Bridge Services and other Texaco stations, the nearest of which is at Rhyl, Prestatyn, Ewloe or Logerheads & Rhydymwyn, near Yr Wyddgrug/Mold. You can use the reward card to gain points on other items than fuel, though there are some restrictions. 500 points gives you a £5 voucher. That equates to spending on over 90 gallons of fuel effectively for £5 off.

There are other Rhuthun Rewards. There's the Cerydn Bro Rhuthun Card, ostensibly for those living in and near Rhuthun but in reality, it's open to anyone. Tesco does its Clubcard and Co-op its dividend card. Others may also do local loyalty schemes. For example, Ty Goron/Crown House has extended its tea/coffee loyalty scheme, when you can get a complementary drink after so many purchases, to include food.

Also of note is that Bridge Services is now open one hour later in the evening, till 11 p.m. making it the latest opening general retailer.
