New Shops Revealed

We are now in a position to add more information on the forthcoming Slater’s development. As rumour turned to fact yesterday, we can reveal the names of three of the stores earmarked to occupy the five units proposed on the former garage site.

You’ll recall that plans slipped into the public domain towards the end of February. Initially, the developer would make no comment. Then, the ambitious plans to convert the current Well Street brownfield site began to emerge. These would see the replacement of the former car showrooms, maintenance garage and adjacent (separately owned) vehicle accident repair business. In their place would come five modern, medium-footprint shop units. By “medium”, we mean large for Rhuthun/Ruthin, though equivalent to below-average elsewhere.

At the time the developer, Consolidated Properties of Crewe, commented, “Ruthin has a strengthening economy. The town will more than benefit from a development on the Slater’s site. Currently, there are no larger, modern units available within the town to attract quality national retailers. Since we’ve kept the attractive design in-keeping with the architectural merits of the town, we’re sure the people of Ruthin will look forward to this exciting new start.”

The development is still subject to planning permission. Expect an early application for planning consent, now that the developer has secured three stores out of five units. The three stores are: Superdrug, New Look and Specsavers.
