Gold & Purple

All the glisters is not gold. Blink and you certainly would’ve missed the “gold” shop that opened for just one week in the former Blossom’s premises, Clwyd Street. It was a branch of streets-of-gold.tv. Inside, was a lonely fellow with laptop busily doing nothing, absolutely nothing the whole day through. He opened from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and shut up shop on Sunday. Yes, he was even open on Sunday (along with others not usually trading that day: John Jones, butchers, Clwyd Street & Ethel Austin).

Lynch’s jewellers has recently been advertising an expert gold buyer, on the premises on Mondays to Wednesdays. That notice has now gone, though Lynch still buys gold. Certainly for Rhuthun, all is not golde that glistereth.

Perhaps it was me, or did I miss something? I’m sure someone was going to distribute purple gift paper for businesses to wrap “presents” for their windows, in support for ANRHEG Nadolig Rhuthun Christmas PRESENT. Wasn't that Ymlaen Rhuthun Forward? Or am I confused with last year? Anyway, it never happened or if it did, proprietors are saving their gift wrap for under their personal Christmas trees.

Yet, the prize for effort goes to Norma Elizabeth, Well Street, for a large box complete with ANRHEG tag (presumably from last year). Rhuthun Wholefoods has a purple box in its window. Boots has repeated its almost purple boxes of last year. Gareth Lynch has a red one. That’s it. Perhaps, sometimes Rhuthun needs to help itself.
