Name & Acclaim

Over the years, there’ve been a number of commenters on here willing to highlight good or bad customer service in Rhuthun. In recent months, such comments have forged a link between customer service and the future of retail. Regular Gina Tonick has at least twice suggested we should all name and shame.

I personally prefer the opposite route: name and acclaim—praise where praise is due. That’s just my viewpoint, of course. And perhaps that’s because I rarely see poor customer service in Rhuthun. Agreed, sometimes it’s average rather than outstanding—but rarely rude. There’s such a vast difference between ‘average’ and ‘rude’. And it also depends upon the transaction. Buying a lottery ticket, a packet of aspirin, a loaf of bread or a newspaper hardly calls for much social intercourse to be able to judge either way.

A number of traders *could* go the extra furlong, though. Paraphrasing some recent comments, the town no longer owes its traders a living. The town needs to work hard to give a good service. And that extends to the businesses on Lôn Parcwr, too.

Whether it’s name & shame or name & acclaim, we must always try to encourage, though. Traders—shops, pubs, restaurants, banks—need to know the good and the bad. We shouldn't keep this to ourselves.

Some comments: The Steak House at the Castle Hotel ~ Plenty on the Picture House ~ Sundry shops: Elfair, Book Shop, charity shops and various others
